Rookies Curriculum (Ages 3–6)

Foundational Skills for Future Stars

At this early stage, our focus is on fostering a love for the game while building core skills in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. The Rookies program lays the groundwork for baseball fundamentals through engaging activities, age-appropriate instruction, and lots of encouragement. Here’s what your child will be learning:

🧠 Understanding the Game

We introduce the basic rules of baseball in a playful and memorable way, helping kids build confidence and game awareness:

  • Running the correct direction after hitting the ball
  • Touching each base in order
  • Understanding how outs are made (catching the ball, throwing to first, tagging runners)
  • Learning to run through first base
  • Recognizing how a run is scored and what makes up an inning

💪 Throwing Fundamentals

Throwing is taught step-by-step to establish proper mechanics and avoid bad habits:

  • Turning the body and pointing the glove-side shoulder at the target
  • Keeping the throwing elbow above the shoulder for safe, strong throws
  • Stepping with the non-throwing foot to aim and release the ball properly

👀 Ball Tracking & Catching

Players develop coordination and fielding confidence by learning to:

  • Track grounders and fly balls with their eyes into the glove
  • Use two hands when catching and fielding
  • Catch the ball out in front of their body for better control
  • (We use softer balls to build comfort and reduce fear)

Hitting Skills

We create a fun and structured introduction to swinging the bat safely and effectively:

  • Proper grip and swing technique
  • Batting safety rules, including when not to swing
  • Wearing helmets at all times during batting drills
  • Hitting off a tee and progressing to soft toss drills when ready

📍 Positional Awareness

Even at this early age, we introduce the concept of teamwork and field awareness:

  • Learning to share the field and allow teammates to make plays
  • Limiting on-field players to ensure space and reduce confusion
  • Encouraging communication and role recognition in the field

By the end of the season, your child will have a solid foundation in baseball mechanics, game understanding, and teamwork—all while building coordination, focus, and self-confidence in a joyful environment.

We’re not just teaching baseball—we’re teaching how to love the game.
